Born Cambridge, England, in January 1980; played bass guitar since 1994; studied with Hugh Boyd and Pascha Milner and at Basstech (London) with Rob Burns, Terry Gregory and others. Played double bass since 2001; basically self taught, with grateful thanks to Simon H. Fell. Received MA Composition from Oxford Brookes University in 2003, having studied with Paul Whitty, Ray Lee and others. Received PhD from Brunel University in 2010, having studied the work of Derek Bailey, Helmut Lachenmann and JH Prynne and been supervised by Richard Barrett and John Croft.

Currently based in New York City, Lash has performed in the UK, Austria, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and USA. Festival appearances include Akbank Jazz Festival (Istanbul), Audiograft (Oxford), Freedom of the City (London), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Hurta Cordel (Madrid), Konfrontationen (Nickelsdorf), LMC Festival (London), Manchester Jazz Festival and Tampere Jazz Happening. His work has been broadcast on a number of radio stations, including BBC Radios 1 and 3 and Germany's SWR2, and released on labels including Another Timbre, b-boim, Bead, Cathnor, Clean Feed, Compost and Height, Emanem, FMR, Foghorn and Leo.

Dominic Lash is a freely improvising double bassist, although his activities also range much more widely. Based in Oxford, he has performed with musicians such as Tony Conrad (in duo and quartet formations), Joe Morris (trio and quartet), Evan Parker (duo, quartet and large ensemble) and the late Steve Reid. His current projects include The Dominic Lash Trio, The Set Ensemble (an experimental music group focused on the work of the Wandelweiser collective), The Convergence Quartet, a trio with John Butcher and John Russell and duos with Patrick Farmer and with Nate Wooley.

The Set Ensemble

Founded in May 2010, the Set Ensemble is dedicated to experimental music, especially that of the Wandelweiser group, and has to date performed music by composers including Antoine Beuger, George Brecht, Jürg Frey, Eva-Maria Houben, Radu Malfatti, Ben Patterson, Michael Pisaro, James Saunders, Stefan Thut and Manfred Werder.
The musicians who have performed as part of the Set Ensemble are: Eric Clarke, Angharad Davies, Rhodri Davies, Jill Eliott, Patrick Farmer, Bruno Guastalla, Kate Hendry, Sarah Hughes, Alexander Hawkins, Dominic Lash, Tim Parkinson, David Stent and Paul Whitty.
